neil-gaiman:

Oh dear god.

And, possibly, even, Dear God….

That moment right there… that’s the moment Anderson Cooper started rethinking this whole ‘TV interviewer’ thing. In that short period of time where he broke his stern composure to put rest his head on his hand, he considered, “Maybe I’ll just leave the studio. Walk out, build a house far, far away from anybody where I’ll never have to ask a question of a stupid person again. That’d be swell.” Within the five seconds that he is off camera, Cooper resolved to snap back to reality, whereupon he proceeded to talk circles around the yeti that he was interviewing.

Comic Book Boycott of the Day: Conservative group One Million Moms is at it again, directing its not-quite-a-million members to boycott Marvel and DC Comics due to recent announcements from both companies about their futures of their gay characters.
DC has revealed that a major character is soon going to come out as gay, while Marvel announced the engagement of superhero Northstar to his boyfriend, Kyle.
These events don’t sit will with One Million Moms, whose anti-gay agenda has also led them to protest the wedding of Archie Comics’ first gay character, Kevin Keller.
“Children desire to be just like superheroes,” said the group in a statement. “Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, ‘I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?’”
The statement goes on to accuse the publishers of trying to “indoctrate [sic] impressionable young minds.”
Marvel and DC have yet to respond to the homophobic comments.

I should hope so
This whole “omg a male DC main character will be gay oh lord have mercy on popular media” is hilarious, DC just simply drops this little fact via twitter that one of them is going to come out and the rest of this publicity is all fucking fan-made. It’s like when JK Rowling answered a question like “are there any gay characters in HP?” and she was like “hm, Dumbledore is”, and then you had Harry Potter fans coming out of the woodwork thinking this argument was legitimate:

aw, but he didn’t seem gay. Why does she even need to mention it? Now that she mentioned it, it sort of ruined his character. It wasn’t necessary, it’s just a publicity stunt, etc. I don’t hate gay people, but like, if it isn’t a big deal, why did she even have to say it??

as usual, the only people who care are the people who are against it.

ps, fuck yeah Northstar, Canada REPRESENT.

THIS ^

Look, One Million Moms, just think about it: you’re afraid some little boy in his impressionable youth will suddenly ‘turn gay’ because he wants to be like Northstar? If it were say, Spider-Man or Batman, you’d still be moronically wrong, but I’d have to acknowledge your shitty opinion. But in your estimation, we have a young lad: straight as any young kid (who has yet to consider any relationship beyond schoolyard chums, be they boys or girls) can be, well on his way to a blissful life of misogyny and you’re afraid that he’s going to start fancying the fellas because Northstar does? Is he going to speak in a French-Canadian accent? Is he going to be part of a team that can’t support an ongoing series? Is he going to pretend to have really boring powers? I don’t see any young kid: 1) reading comics since they’ve got video games and pokemans to play with 2) being influenced by Northstar because no one cares about Northstar unless he’s involved in a storyline like this3) ‘becoming gay’ because a comic book character did it, whoever they are
The only thing it might possibly teach is the same thing the X-Men taught (though in a more subtle, albeit slightly less intentional way), that being that there are many different kinds of people out there and that we all ought to be cool with that.

"As of Season 3, my relationship with Community’s fans is the longest relationship I’ve ever had. It’s also the most successful, unless you go by ratings or awards.
I think the fans and I work well together because we began our relationship with TV instead of sex, so it always feels like the spark is still there. Also, we can never take each other for granted, because neither of us ever really knows if the other will be there next week.
We cherish every second we have together, which is easy for me, because our fans are the smartest, sweetest, most creative people in the world. They are the people who, in spite of their intelligence, believe, deep down, that humanity doesn’t give itself enough credit.
It was a terrible business decision to write a show for the “smart and nice” demographic. I may as well have written for three-legged unicorns. But this show stopped being about business the moment I saw my first Community fan video on YouTube.
And it wasn’t about business when the fans voted for us to be on the cover of TV Guide Magazine. They’ve been with our show for triumphs and they’ve been there when NBC asked us to cast Hilary Duff, and they’ve decided that the benefits are worth the risks.
That’s love. It’s definitely mutual. Our fans give my life an order and a value that it has never had before, and will never have again.
My therapist will be excited to see this article. I think she knows she can buy that house now."

So many feelings, really. All of them are tears.
